Striker Richards Leaves Roots Hall

Tony Richards has had his contract terminated by mutual consent.
In all honesty it has come as a surprise to very few that Richards has parted company with the Shrimpers, with only 45 minutes of League football to his name since October and only two somewhat half-hearted reserve team appearances this campaign.

28-year old Richards, who was signed by former manager David Webb in July 2001 from Conference side Barnet for £30,000 was never a popular figure on the seaside and he only managed to score twice for Southend, bagging a brace in the 4-1 home victory over Halifax Town at the end of last August.

A series of niggling injuries also affected Richards form, and his contract was been terminated at his own request with eleven months still to run.

Of course we at www.thelittlegazette.com wish Tony Richards all the best for his future career.

Meanwhile, former Grimsby Town striker Bradley Allen, who has been training with Blues recently will not be signing at Roots Hall, as he today completed a move to Second Division side Peterborough United.
