Shrimpers denied top scorer for Cup clash

Loanee Britt Assombalonga will miss Southend's FA Cup first-round tie at home to Stockport having been denied permission to feature by his parent club.

The Shrimpers' nine-goal leading scorer will be forced to watch from the stands at Roots Hall as Watford have refused him permission to play.

He will return to contention for Tuesday's npower League Two clash at Bristol Rovers.

Striker Freddy Eastwood is a doubt having injured his back while getting up from a chair but there is good news elsewhere for manager Paul Sturrock.

Loan pair Marc Laird and Jonson Clarke-Harris have been cleared to play by Leyton Orient and Peterborough respectively.

Michael Timlin is back in the fold following his ankle problem while fellow midfielder Ryan Leonard (hamstring) and defender Luke Prosser (gluteus maximus) have also returned to training.MSUBBED

Jim Gannon has the luxury of a fully-fit squad.

Danny Hattersley missed the 3-3 league draw with Lincoln last weekend on doctor's orders after suffering a concussion, but he has been cleared to take part in the cup tie.

Daniel O'Donnell is also back in contention following injury and could make his first appearance since the start of September as the Hatters look to pull off a cup upset.

Stockport have not won at Southend since 1977 but have drawn five of their last nine visits to Roots Hall.

They go into the game in good form, having only lost one of their last eight outings and having scored eight goals in their last two fixtures.
