Southend V Morecambe at Roots Hall - Match Preview

Brown could ring changes

Phil Brown is pondering changes for the visit of Morecambe as Southend aim to get back to winning ways following successive defeats.

Midfielders Kevan Hurst and Michael Timlin are knocking loudly on Brown's door for their first starts of the season, while new signing Cauley Woodrow, on loan from Fulham, is also hoping for involvement in attack.

Centre-back Adam Thompson is away with Northern Ireland's Under-21 side but his loss is countered by the return of Mark Phillips after a groin strain.

Striker Craig Reid is rated as 50/50 while Marc Laird and Julian Bennett are both sidelined with long-term knee injuries.

Morecambe boss Jim Bentley will be without defender Chris McCready for the trip.

The 32-year-old snapped his collarbone in the 2-1 victory over Plymouth and will sit out for the next two to three months.

Striker Padraig Amond will be hoping to retain his spot in the Shrimps' attack after scoring the winner last weekend.

Amond faces stiff competition from young forward Jack Sampson, who is also vying for a starting berth after being dropped to the bench for the Plymouth clash.
