Southend United v Lincoln City - Preview

Last updated : 08 March 2003 By Mark Wallis

Jay Smith
Jay Smith will once again play despite his groin injury.
United have slipped up in recent weeks having lost at both Macclesfield Town and Kidderminster Harriers in the last seven days, but Rob Newman's side are so far unbeaten at Roots Hall since the turn of the new year and they will be seeking to continue their resurgence in home form this afternoon against play-off chasing Lincoln City.

The Shrimpers will be without striker Mark Rawle who limped off with a hamstring injury at Kidderminster on Tuesday evening, as a result Daniel Marney should return to the starting line-up on the right wing with leading scorer Tes Bramble taking his place on the forward line alongside Dominic Foley who plays his last game for the Club with his month-long loan from Watford coming to an end.

Another loanee, Tottenham Hotspur's Stephen Kelly will start once again in what was originally scheduled to be his final game, but following the postponement of the Youth Championships in Dubai - where Kelly was meant to representing the Republic of Ireland - the young defender is expected to remain with United until the end of the campaign.

Jay Smith will once again play despite carrying a groin injury which affected his performances in the last two games, Steve Tilson however misses out with a back injury.

Back in September, Neil Jenkins' block-busting free kick wasn't enough as the Shrimpers crashed to a 2-1 defeat on a dreadful Sincil Bank pitch, and undoutedly Southend will be looking for revenge over the Imps this afternoon.
