Match on? The club are really confident this time

Unlike the postponement of the Wycombe Wanderers match at Roots Hall last Saturday, let's hope we see some footy this weekend after the Christmas pud has settled down.

Any snow on the pitch has been removed and pitch covers are still in place over the whole playing surface.

Southend have also been using pitch heaters to defrost the frozen areas in the goalmouth that got the referee flustered last time around.

Temperatures have risen, so it's planned to remove the covers from the pitch to check things out, probably on Friday, and the heaters can return if areas of the pitch remain frozen.

www.southendunited.co.uk told us: "As always with these matters, you are sometimes in the hands of Mother Nature but everything within our power is being done to give the game the best possible chance of being played. Sunday's game will be our first match at Roots Hall in over a month and following the excellent performance at Cheltenham Town we hope supporters will turn out in force to support the side."

After S24's complaints about the club being happy for the game to take place but in front of a poor attendence because supporters couldn't make it to the ground, they have added that though work has been underway all week to 'ensure the pitch is playable and the surrounding area of the stadium are safe for spectators.'

Thanks for that guys, as for the state of the roads and the running of local transport, we are in the hands of a higher being. (No, not Uncle Ron!)

Ground staff will be ready and waiting Christmas Day evening to ensure that the League Two clash goes ahead if needed, bless!
