Southend United top of the form league; can they keep going till May?

Last updated : 24 February 2011 By exiledessexboy

Blues boss Paul Sturrock is concerned about 'upsetting the applecart' if he brings in loan players to boost his depleted but closely bonded team, presently, as shown below, Southend United are the form club in the fourth tier.

The trouble is how long can the obviously tired squad, we've hung on for vital points at both Torquay and Buron in the two previous games, keep going?

Still 15 games left in ten short weeks.

Injuries to quality players Bilel Mohsni, Anthony Grant and Kane Ferdinand, the jewels in the crown according to a recent S24 poll, along with on bail in form winger Ryan Hall having to face the judge on March 3rd and possible time spent in the pleasure of Her Majesty, bloody hell Ryan what were you thinking?, will stretch the resources of the club to the limit.

As we've read we're hanging on week by week at the behest of Sainsbury's paying the bills, they're will be no goal scoring legend demanding big wages coming in as an emergency loanee, the chance of keeping young Kane is fading day by day.

It would be a kick in the guts to all who have the interests of Southend at heart if points and position would start to drop as the players start to run on empty after an hour.

As good as current replacements Lee Sawyer and Miguel Comminges are at the moment, what's after that? Kids? Louie Soares?

The Shrimpers faithful, home and away, have certainly done their bit as the season has panned out beyong their wildest predictions, anything outside the bottom two was enough for some, but great support for the lads, well appreciated now by the players and the management.

Still, after all is said and done, fourth in the HOME league table, you wouldn't have thought that possible a few weeks ago the way we were playing at Roots Hall.

Whatever happens in the future, and next up another game on football's scared grass against the Cobblers of Northampton on Saturday, our sixth match this month, the manager and the team he put together in such dramatic circumstances in the summer have not done too badly.

COME ON YOU BLUES!!!!!
