Paterson: Netted a brace

Matt Paterson; not a surprise he's off, but Stockport?

Kudos to www.skysports.com who got in first, before both club official sites, with Stockport County eventually getting in before our very own, blimey they really don't think much of him at Roots Hall!

Anyway, the Hatters have signed Southend striker Matt Paterson on emergency loan for a month, which could go the full 93 days and take them him to the end of the season where they might make it more permenant.

It's a desperate attempt to starve off relegation, Matt is not a prodigious goalscorer, after the Hatters have free-falled into the bottom tier's relegation zone over the last couple of months.

And even more bizzare the former Southampton forward turned down mid-table Stevenage to travel to the north-west to take on a fight to stay out of the Conference, he really wants to be as far away as possible from south-east Essex, or they offered a bigger wage packet!

If Stockport boss Peter Ward didn't have enough troubles, losing a lot of games recently for starters, he's seen forward Ishmel Demontagna and midfielder Stephen Husband being recalled to Blackpool without being able to extend their loan deals after the pair have scored four times in their time at the Greater Manchester club.

One of the 'summer four' who stayed behind it soon became clear that along with Scott Spencer he didn't figure too highly in Blues boss Paul Sturrock's plans, even having to sit on the subs bench in the reserve game on Tuesday, though that could have been because talks had already started.

And unlike Screech the 21-year-old actually scored goals this season, four in 15 games as a start or more likely, a substitute, and six goals in total over 31 appearances.

A make weight in the deal that took Lee Barnard to the Saints he always looked he needed to fill out a bit especially in the tougher envioment of League Two, but there was no doubting his talent, and S24 wishes him all the best at Edgley Park, and some of that promise turns into goals as well as points for the Hatters, but not against us on Saturday, March 26th thank you very much!
