Southend United Release Midfield Duo

Scott Forbes will not be a United player next season.
Central midfielder Marek Szmid and left-sided winger Scott Forbes have been told by boss Rob Newman that they will not be offered new contracts for the forthcoming 2002/03 season.

Canewdon-born Forbes, signed from Saffron Walden Town in August 2000 became a huge hit with supporters last season with his impressive and determined performances on the left flank. This season however Forbes has suffered various injury set-backs and has found first team football difficult to come by. When called upon the pacey wide-man has struggled to find the form he showed during the previous campaign and his release has seemed to be on the cards for a while.

Marek Szmid joined United in November following an initial trial period, from Manchester United. Formerly captain of Englands Schoolboy side the pint-size midfielder began to impress after the turn of the new year, but having made just two first team appearances, as a substitute at Hartlepool United before starting at Leyton Orient, the young midfielder seemed to loose his feet and slipped out of contention for a first team place.

Needless to say we at The Little Gazette wish both Scott Forbes and Marek Szmid all the best in their future careers.
