Southend United Press Conference 1: No contracts signed yet as Ipswich friendly in doubt

Ron Martin - has decided to

Don't ask him about the money!

Shrimpers supremo Ron Martin did not hang around at this morning's press conference after introducing Southend United's new management team of Paul Sturrock and his assistant Tommy Widdrington.

No chance of any financial questions then!

However, the three-year contracts that both were reported to have signed does not seem to be the case, and as the assembled journalists tried to clear that one up Uncle Ron took his leave!

When asked if he's actually signed a contract Sturrock said: 'No, we came to agreement as it was all so quick, had to get here asap!"

In the meantime the 178-odd ticket holders for Friday's pre-season with Ipswich Town on Friday may be getting their money back, that is if Ron hasn't spent it, and any Tractor Boys who fancied making the trip to check up on what Roy Keane had been up to in the close season, be warned.

Sturrock told the conference: "I will have to have a chat with Ipswich as I am told we are supposed to be playing a game on Friday."

Seeing as we only have 9 players I'd arrange something else for the weekend people.
