Holmes: 'Southend games are always the first ones I look for on the fixture list'

Barnet wideboy Ricky Holmes returned from a long term injury this season that saw his campaign end in January, and he's been turning in some good performances by all accounts as the North London lads try and turn over Southend United Tuesday evening at their Underhill stadium in front of 1,000-odd screaming Shrimpers supporters, probably close to half the crowd!

Born in Rochford, with Shrimpers supporting parents who took him to Roots Hall as a kid al la Neil Harris, it's going to be hard for the boy!

Holmes told www.echo-news.co.uk: “The Southend games are always the first ones I look for on the fixture list so I’m looking forward to the match even though it’s going to be a difficult one for us. We’ve had a poor start to the season but that doesn’t reflect the talent of the players we have here and we know we should be doing better. We want to start turning things around although we know that will be hard against Southend because they’re flying at the moment.”

Still, there be plenty of Ricky relatives and friends in tonights crowd, and the player himself is in no doubt who he wants to see pick up the points, a win the Bees need to climb out of the bottom two!

Holmes said: “My parents are Southend fans and so are all my mates so I’m not sure who they want to win if I’m honest. I’d like to think that my mum and dad will be cheering for Barnet but I’m less confident about my mates as we always used to go to the Southend games together. They’ve been my team since I first got in to football at the age of six but of course I hope they lose tonight and then go on another good run.”
