Maher, a former Ireland youth international, was one of four players booked by Marriner and he faces a possible FA charge after publicly criticizing the official.

He said: _You didn't know what the referee was going to give all game. Both sets of players and fans didn't know what was going on.

"Nobody has appealed for the penalty, but the referee couldn't wait.

We are accountable for our performances as players and I hope he is too. Four of us got booked, including myself, after the game.

"We wanted to know why he gave the penalty because no one else knows. The referee wouldn't explain it to us and he was so arrogant about it.

Meanwhile, forward Billy Paynter will remain on loan at Bradford until the end of the season.
