Southend Rely On Hunt For Survival

Hunt joins Southend for four-and-a-half weeks

United chief Steve Wignall has been chasing the right-sided defender, who has the ability to play right across the back four, over the past seven days, and was finally able to confirm to the club’s official website,
www.southendunited.co.uk, this morning that a deal had been done. Hunt’s initial loan period at the Hall will be one month, ending on November 29th with the trip to Torquay United. However, it is unlikely that the Birmingham-born talent will be available for the crunch F.A. Cup first round tie against Canvey Island as the Rams look to keep their options open.

Hunt is obstensibly coming to the Shrimpers to gain first team experience having made just 13 career appearances, five of which have been as a substitute. This campaign he has made just one start, in a 3-0 defeat against
Stoke City, when he was hauled off after just half-an-hour with County two goals down. The 21-year-old has yet to find the back of the net in a competitive fixture, having played the bulk of his football in last season’s struggle for survival in Division One.

Wignall told Southend United’s official website, “He’s made a number of first-team appearances for
Derby. He continueed to state, “At the minute he’s a bit out of favour and I think he came out of the team purely because of an injury he picked up last term”. Wignall finally explained the reasons behind his capture, “With us being so thin on the ground when it comes to defenders at the moment he can come in and play anywhere across the back four and also plays well in midfield. That’s the sort of player I need”.
