Smith is first to leave Roots Hall

Ben Smith has joined Hereford United.
Ben Smith, who joined Blues from former manager David Webb's previous side, Yeovil Town last summer found himself plagued by injury last season, and his only first team appearance came at Roots Hall towards the end of August when he arrived as a late substitute during the 4-1 trouncing of Halifax Town.

Having had keyhole surgery on a nigling knee complaint, Smith was confined to only eight reserve team appearances and understandly Newman only offered the Chelmsford-born former Arsenal and Reading youngster a three-month deal with a view to a more lengthy contract.

Smith however wished for a more secure future and has opted to accept a longer deal with Nationwide Conference side Hereford United.
