Simpson: 'I'm also very cautious of not changing a winning side too much'

Macclesfield manager Gary Simpson had a good 2-0 win over Aldershot Saturday to put him and his team in good spirits to take on the Shrimpers in their FA Cup First Round replay at Roots Hall Tuesday evening.

However, he soon moved on to the importance of a prolonged run in the Cup is to a team that gets home gates of just over a thousand!

Simpson told www.mtfc.co.uk: "Financially for the club it's a very important competition, so there's that very good reason to want to progress. but it's also a good boost for the players and supporters of the club to get through to the next round. So we'll go down there and give it our best shot."

And the side he'll have available?

Simpson continued: "We're missing Carl Tremarco for suspension but we have Drapes, Vinny and Emile back so it certainly gives me the option of changing things around. But I'm also very cautious of not changing a winning side too much, so it's something I will be assessing in a couple of days we are spending in Southend and then make a decision when we know how everyone is doing."

Finally, he commented on the effects on his side making an overnight stay in south-east Essex.

Coleman concluded: "It's a real help. it's certainly not ideal preperation to spend five and a half hours in a coach before the match, and if you factor getting something to eat into that then you're pretty much travelling all day. But there are pros and cons for taking it overnight. we want to give ourselves the best chance of getting the result so we'll get down Monday and that lets us do a bit of work in the morning and then they can have a good rest in the afternoon before the game."
