Simon says: 'It will be hard for Shrimpers to attract other players in'

Roycey: 'If Tilly has the right people around him Southend can do well'

As the summer continues and the Shrimpers faithful await any news that they will have a team of players over 18 for the opening league game a mere seven weeks away, a former player has been contacted by the Echo to give his thoughts on the subject.

Royce, now a player/coach at League One Brentford after joining them from Gillingham, is confident we'll get a squad together to fight for promotion as long as Steve Tilson remains as boss, and that annoying transfer embargo goes away!

Roycey told www.echo-news.co.uk: "I can't see why Southend shouldn't do well next season, as long as they can bring in players. I know they could well lose a few of their more established players and that it will be hard to attract others in, but they have Steve Tilson and he's a very good manager. He has shown what he can do there before and if he has the right people around him I'm sure he can go and do it again."

'Right people around him'; Roycey, he'll be lucky to have anyone around him come August, let alone the July friendlies.

So who else has the Echo lined up to fill the summer space?!!

Apologies for the cynicism Simon, and thanks for the few kind words, at least your not an unamed source!
