Scott Spencer: 'I have really enjoyed being with Southend'

It started as gossip from a conversation at the Shrimpers Trust Awards evening but the club have now confirmed that young Screech has been asked to stay a Shrimper for a further year.

Scott has scored a healthy four goals in five starts for United last season after joining during the January transfer window from Rochdale.

Spencer told www.southendunited.co.uk: "I will be staying here next season. It's a year extension so it's just a formality really and it's all close to being done, which is good news because I have really enjoyed being with Southend and I'm happy to be here."

His all-action style could be well suited to League Two where defenders will certainly be slower, and the Blues faithful will be happy to hear that while treatment on the ankle injury that ended his season continues, we should see the 20-year-old in time for the July friendlies.

Scott continued: "I just got a bad kick on it at Gillingham but tried to play on. I then ended up going over on it and did all my ligaments. My Achilles has been playing up too, so we're getting everything sorted but I'm sure I'll be fit for pre-season."
