Scannell: 'The complications off the field have been well documented'

As revealed by the official site last week Shrimpers winger Damien Scannell had turned down an offer of a new two year contract with the club and was talking to an unamed League One club which S24 believe to be Dagenham & Redbridge, though there has been no confirmation on that yet.

However, young Damien has told the Echo it was the continued late payment of wages which forced him to make the decision to leave the club.

Damian told www.echo-news.co.uk: "There have been complications off the field at Southend which I think have been well documented now and I just needed more security in my life to be honest. I don't really want to say too much about it, but I have bills to pay just like everyone else and it's been hard being at Southend."
