It's a Luggy gamble, 18-year-old Nathaniel Jarvis has not appeared for the in the Cardiff first team yet, although he has been among the Championship club's substitutes this season after impressing for the youth and reserve sides.
And he's got to thank a strong performance in the Blues Two's 1-0 defeat at Stevenage in midweek for the chance!
Blues boss Paul Sturrock told www.southendunited.co.uk: "He is a player I have seen a couple of times. His attitude to play is excellent and he is very quick so that will benefit the team."
Meanwhile, Bluebirds boss Dave Jones spoke to www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk: "The loan will give Nat some good experience, will help him make progress and I'm sure he will do well at Southend."
Nathaniel goes straight into the squad for Saturday's league game at Hereford United.
