Damian Scannell; out for 6 to 8 weeks!

Up to last night, when even Damian was outshone by the Moose, the exciting Scannell has been Southend's oustanding forward for many matches recently as the Shrimpers slippped down the table.

However, a poor challange from behind by a Walsall defender saw him limp off after 64 minutes of the 3-0 win at Roots Hall Tuesday evening, and it's now been confirmed that he has broken his fifth metatarsal.

With Damian having to face 6 to 8 weeks out injured there's not much chance of seeing the winger again this season which is a real blow to United's hopes of escaping relegation, he's been that good.

Physio John Stannard told www.southendunited.co.uk: "Damian won't require surgery. It's not displaced and will heal on it's own given time but unfortunately it looks as if he won't play again this season. The doctor has put him in a walking boot and it's a case of him just waiting for his body to repair."
