Phillips: Struck late

Phillips: '(Morecambe) have the second best defensive (record) too'

It's the League Two match of the day, and they're could be over 10,000 to see it, and we written that for a while!

Morecambe though will be a tough test for the league leaders Saturday afternoon, the Shrimps have scored more goals than any other team in the fourth tier so far this season, while only Oxford have let in less, and they remain unbeaten away; all in all the Lancashire lads are not a bad team whatever's been happening at the Globe Arena.

So centre-back Mark Phillips will know he has to be on top of his game, which, to be fair, he has been since he returned from his last injury.

Phillips told www.echo-news.co.uk: "Morecambe are a very good side and they have scored plenty of goals this season so we know we are in for a hard game. They’ve scored the most goals in the division and have the second best defensive too. They’ve also been top of the league for most of the season but, at the same time, we’re obviously full of confidence ourselves and this is another game we’re looking forward to.”

Meanwhile, further up, to the right, and in midfield, stands Ryan Leonard, who is hoping to fight off the chorus of Southend supporters who want Ryan Hall to take his place wide right.

Something Blues boss Paul Sturrock hasn't been tempted to do so far as United have racked up six successive wins, though sometimes the goals have come late with Ryan substituted; but hey, it's a team game, and the former Plymouth teenager, hard to believe he's only 19, has no intention of going anywhere yet, other than Roots Hall in front of a bumper crowd to take on the sixth placed Morecambe.

Leonard also spoke to the Echo: "We want to keep the run going but Morecambe are a good team so we’re taking nothing for granted. It wasn’t long ago that they beat Crawley 6-0 and they’ve had plenty of other good results, especially away from home. We’re in for a tough afternoon and will have to work hard to get the win because that’s the main reason why I think we’ve being doing well.”
