Shrimpers Injury Update: Corr and Kalala get training clearance

Corr: Found the back of the net

Barry Corr: Back in action soon, we hope!

With the present shortage of striking options allowed Blues boss Paul Sturrock he will be pleased to hear, along with all the Shrimpers faithful, that last season's top scorer Barry Corr has been given the nod to start some light ball work today (Thursday) and if all goes well, he doesn't break down again, will resume full training with the squad next Monday.

This would be too early for the Tuesday game at home to Gillingham, but Plymouth on the following Saturday (Sept. 17th), also at Roots Hall, must be in Luggy's mind for Corr, if only on the bench.

The 21-goal Irishman from the previous campaign has not played a game this term and it will be a real boost to everyone at the club to see him up and running, especially as Neil Harris remains out with a groin problem and Liam Dickinson is still suspended for the next two League Two clashes which will probably see Bilel Mohsni and Blair Sturrock continue their partnership upfront.

Midfielder Jean-Paul Kalala though may be even fit enough to take some part in  this weekend's match at Swindon Town after getting approval to resume training today.

JP also picked up a groin injury and has missed the Shrimpers last three games.

No news of midfielder Lee Sawyer and his tweaked thigh muscle, so expecting him not to make the trip to the County Ground, then again Luggy's boys do make the odd miraculous recovery that he keeps away from the media!
