Shrimpers in Dudfield Contract Dispute

Last updated : 05 March 2004 By Mark Wallis
Lawrie Dudfield hopes for a permanent switch to Roots Hall.
Blues Caretaker boss Steve Tilson is trying to keep Dudfield at Roots Hall until the end of the season, after which the 23-year old would be able to join United on a free transfer when, Southend claim, his contract at Sixfields expires.

However, Northampton manager Colin Calderwood insists that Dudfield is still contracted to the Cobblers for another season and is demanding a fee from the Essex side, which, it seems, they wish to be paid upfront.

Dudfield has insisted that he wants to stay at Southend on a permanent basis, but for the time being he knows that, contrary to some reports from Northamptonshire, he will definately be lining up in the Shrimpers frontline at Bristol Rovers tomorrow afternoon.
