Sanchez Watt; plays mainly on the left wing
Southend believed they had their man moments before the January transfer window closed Monday afternoon, but had to wait to the next day to get confirmation from the football authorities that the deal had actually gone through.
Watt played in Arsenal's under-18 double-winning side last season and favours the left side, either on the wing or part of a three man strike force.
He has turned out six times for Arsenal reserves and made 21 appearances for their youth team during the present season.
In September 2009 the young Gunner, who has represented England at under-16, 17 and 19 levels, scored on his first team debut during the Carling Cup third round tie against West Brom in a 2-0 win.
Watt went on to complete three further appearances in this season's League Cup competition for the Arsenal senior team.
Blues boss Steve Tilson told www.southendunited.co.uk: "It's a good signing for us as he's someone we have watched before. He's played in Arsenal's first team at a young age and done well and he's left footed. He plays on the left wing but he can also play on the left side of a three man attack."
Sanchez will go into the squad for the Essex derby game against the Farmers next Monday evening and will help ease Tilly's selection headache with Baldwin, Grant, McCormack, O'Keefe and Vernon all unavailable.
