Shrimpers Find Themselves Sky High Again

Sky, who have television rights to FA Cup, League (Carling) Cup, Football League and Football League Playoffs will certainly know there way to Roots Hall. They have already visited the Hall on two occasions last season, once for the trip of Luton Town in the FA Cup and then for the Playoff Second Leg against Northampton. Southend have a mixed record on Sky although until recent victories over Northampton and Lincoln, many fans would have doubted the team’s ability to play in front of a TV audience.

Woodward may then have joined Southampton after completing the British Lions rugby tour
However the result of this match will show very little about Southend’s ability to play in front of the camera as most people will expect the Shrimper’s to lose the game. Whilst there is a chance of an upset few will expect the Saint’s to lose. Despite this, Harry Redknapp, who will be joined by British Lions rugby manager Clive Woodward, has decided not to take any chances and expects a competitive game. “Southend are a good side who did well last year so it will be difficult game for us,” he commented.

The game will of course have an extra edge for Darryl Flahavan who was a trainee at Southampton before moving to Woking and then into the Football League with Southend. His current club, Southend, will benefit by £50,000 because Sky Sports has chosen there game.
The game will be on Monday 22nd August, 8pm kick off.
