Harris: Millwall legend

Harris: 'I’d also like to offer my congratulations to Sean Clohessy'

No worries about Shrimpers striker Neil Harris recent form, it's three in three as his side have risen to the top of the pile in League Two.

And there's even a decent cup run starting that could end at Wembley as Southend enter the southern section of the last eight of the Johnson's Paint Trophy after defeating Dagenham & Redbridge 3-1 at Victoria Road Tuesday evening.

However, for one lady Shrimpers supporter amongst the 915 travelling faithful, there was a bit of a shock before the side's even kicked-off!

Harris told www.echo-news.co.uk"It was unfortunate that during the warm up before the Dagenham game a misplaced shot of mine struck a female Southend supporter in the face. It was an unfortunate scenario which sometimes does happen, but I felt bad about it. I therefore spotted the person who was hit by the ball and went back in to the changing room to sign my training top with a note to say sorry to her. I just hope she accepted my apology and the incident didn’t cause her too much pain."

It's also the end of the 'Beards for Boobs' sponsorship drive that saw against Shrewsbury the hairest Southend team in history, (well, not since the seventies anyway, have you seen Gary Moore's tash?), but not all have done the deed of getting rid of the hirsute look!

Harris explained: "As many of you are already aware, a few of the boys didn’t shave during September to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Care charity. But now we’re in to October, Mark Phillips, Chris Barker and Harry Crawford have all shaved their beards off while Michael Timlin and myself have opted for a trim!"

Fair enough; meanwhile, more on the in-form Shrimpers centre-back!

Bomber said: "Talking of Mark, he hasn’t taken too much stick about his interesting celebration against Shrewsbury last Friday. He does get a little bit of grief about how much time he spends with our physio Ben Clarkson but Mark’s shown his quality this season and we hope he will be back for the weekend."
