Gilbert: On the scoresheet for Southend

Peter Gilbert: The inform left back is selected for the second week running!

Phillips: Ready for comeback

Mark Phillips: Another fine performance, rewarded with his fourth goal of the season

Southend United were rewarded with another double, when two players of our players were selected once again for the npower Football League Two team of the week for September 30th/October 1st, 2011, chosen by the Press Association.

So congratulations to Peter Gilbert for a second successive selection at left-back, and Mark Phillips in central defence, I'm sure the second time he's appeared in the 'side' as well, capped off with a goal in his last game with a full beard!

The unlucky player to me is JP Kalala who was oustanding in front of the back four and is the main reason the Shrimpers have kept four clean sheets in a row while picking up 12 points and are now sitting proudly at the top of the league.

Maybe they can't spell his name, then again they picked Jose Velga!

S24 player markings v Shrews: Morris - 7, Clohessy - 6, Barker - 7, Phillips - 7, Gilbert - 7, Kalala - 8, Leonard - 7 (Hall 85), Ferdinand - 6 (Grant 77 - 6), Timlin - 7, Harris - 6, Dickinson - 7.

The Silkmen keeper was rewarded for a fine display in keeping out Swindon, and their 2-0 win Friday night also saw midfielder Ross Draper get picked.

The Creepies, who else, were the third side to get a brace of players in the eleven, defender Claude Davies and striker Matthew Tubbs, after beating Plymouth 2-0, seeing off that mini-revival of one win last week for the Pilgrims!

Oxford's 1-0 away at Hereford saw right-back Damien Butt in, Christian Jolley did the business for the Dons as they beat Gillingham 3-1, the other league newcomers now fourth, only two points behind the far richer Crawley, well done lads.

That leaves Lee Mansell for Martin Ling's Torquay who held the previous leaders Morecambe to a 1-1 draw, and the ever-dangerous Marc Richards, two goals for him as the Valiants saw off the Millers 2-0, it was so helpful to us that he was injured when we won 3-2 there back in August, he remains a handful for bottom tier defences, but, then again, maybe not so much for ours at the moment!

Team of the Week: Jose Velga (Macclesfield), Damian Batt (Oxford United), Mark Phillips (Southend United), Claude Davies (Crawley Town), Peter Gilbert (Southend United), Christian Jolley (AFC Wimbledon), Lee Mansell (Torquay United), Ross Draper (Macclesfield), Kevin Ellison (Morecambe), Matthew Tubbs (Crawley Town), Marc Richards (Port Vale).
