The Seasiders last faced the Islanders, situated some five miles away by the River Thames, at Park Lane last November, when goals from Tesfaye Bramble and Jay Smith – whose last minute strike sealed a personal brace – handed United a 3-2 win in a first round replay in front of the SKY television cameras. That followed a 1-1 draw in the first match at Roots Hall, where earlier in the campaign Canvey had emerged victorious by a single Ty Gooden goal to nil.
The clash will form the second fixture in Blues’ pre-season schedule, on Monday 19th July, just two days after they open up against East Thurrock United. As a result, both Southend XI’s are likely to be under strength, with a full quota involved on Wednesday 21st against First Division outfit Millwall. Dagenham & Redbridge host another Shrimpers team on Saturday 24th, and Billericay Town are the opposition at New Lodge on Monday 26th. Brighton & Hove Albion will be a seaside derby on Wednesday 28th before the month is rounded out the following Saturday by a trip to Grays Athletic.
Prices for the home fixtures have been confirmed – the Canvey Island clash will cost supporters £10 for adults and £5 for concessions, whilst the Millwall encounter will be an additional two pounds for adults and one pound for concessions. The Brighton & Hove Albion match, which like the other two games kicks off at 7.45 p.m., will be the same as the Lions encounter at £12 and £6. For all games only the East Stand will be open for home fans. Tickets go on sale this Monday, and online from Saturday from the club's ticketing facility.
