Revell: 'For me personally Southend ended in difficult circumstances'

Now with Wycombe Wanderers, though technically a Shrimper until the end of the season when he will become a free agent, forward Alex Revell spent enough time with Swindon Town, the team Southend face on Saturday at Roots Hall, to offer his opinion on both sides.

He was certainly impressed with what he saw at the County Ground.

Revell spoke to the Echo: "The gaffer there is very focused on the next game and he's very thorough in his preparations. He goes through team shape several days before the match and he's made some great signings for them. The centre-backs (Gordon Greer and Scott Cuthbert) have been awesome and he's brought in some fine players from Scotland including Simon Ferry, a midfielder on loan from Celtic. They're a big club and they're flying at the moment. Charlie Austin and Billy Paynter, (yet another former Shrimper), are scoring every week, so it will be difficult for Southend. But this run they're on must come to an end soon and maybe it will be against Southend."

Though delighted his move to the Chairboys has finally come through, he was at Roots Hall last weekend for the 1-1 draw between the clubs, and he accepts they are in a tougher fight against relegation than even Southend find themselves in, Alex knows that he didn't leave the Shrimpers in the best of circumstances.

The former Braintree striker concluded: "For me personally it ended in difficult circumstances and it was a mixed time. I didn't reach the standards I set myself at the start of my time there but then I felt I got better, even though the goals didn't come. I always gave my all and I made some great friends there. I just hope that when I go back that people remember me for the better times and not the way it ended."
