Scolari compares Mildenhall save to Banks while Clarke saves his best gift to last

That save from Banks in the famous match against Brazil in the 1970 World Cup in Mexico will live long in the memory of those who saw it, now Scolari has compared Southend keeper Mildenhall's in the dying seconds of Saturday's F.A. Cup third round as a similar effort.

Steve though is not letting it get to his head. Speaking to www.southendunited.co.uk he said: "That's something we have been working on with Lee Turner (Shrimper goalkeeping coach) recently. We've been working on reflex saves and thankfully it has paid off to-day. All the boys worked so hard and we were under pressure for large parts of the game. I was just glad that I was able to play my part in the draw."

TLG Man-of-the-Match Mildenhall went on to speak about the whole game: "With 15 minutes to go we had no choice but to give it a go. We'd not had too many chances prior to that and then we've had two decent ones through Peter (Clarke). Overall I think we deserved our replay and Chelsea won't enjoy having to come to Roots Hall. But we need to put that to the back of our minds now because we have our biggest match of the season against Crewe. Things haven't gone great in the league in the last few weeks so hopefully we can use this result to spur us on now."

Centre back Peter Clarke, on his 27th birthday, gave himself his biggest birthday present of the day when he headed home on the stroke of stoppage time to send the 6,000 odd Southend faithful, and his own team mates, quite excited.

Clarkey, the only survivor in the team that played in the victory over Manchester United over two years ago, said after the game: "I couldn't have asked for a better present. I'd had a chance a bit before that one I scored which hit the bar and I'd like to say I was finding my range with that one. But little Johnny Herd had delivered a peach of a throw into the area and with a bit of help from Carvalho I was able to direct it past the keeper. When it went in I just went mad and everything after that was a bit of a blur. They had plenty of the ball and chances but our keeper made a great save to earn us a replay as much as my goal did. Chelsea are pretty good away from home at the moment so I'm not sure if playing at Roots Hall is a good thing or a bad thing in the replay. But for us we will enjoy this moment, but teh big game is against Crewe next Saturday and then we can worry about them in the replay."
