Damien Scannell; contract ends in the summer

Many of the Shrimpers faithful felt that young Damian Scannell had got on the bad side of Blues boss Steve Tilson after taking so long to gain a regular starting place, some still believe he's better used as a impact substitute who can come on and turn a game around.

However, they could not have failed to notice his great game at Colchester last week, and though he couldn't quite keep up the storming pace he showed at the start of the Tranmere match Saturday it looks as if the former Eastleigh man has broken through at last.

Now Damien has to find the consistancy to make him undroppable, and that means taking that form into the stadium:mk next weekend and MK Dons. A goal or two would help as well!

Scannell told www.echo-news.co.uk: "It's a difficult and very important game for us so we will all need to play well. I feel like I have been doing that in the last few games and it's because I've had a run of matches in the team. If you look I've never really had that before and I want to make the most of this chance the gaffer has given me. I want to keep the shirt and my place in the team and show what I can do. I still feel there is a lot more to come from me, including some goals, and hopefully I can show that on Saturday."

lnjuries, illness, and the odd suspension, have not helped Damian in improving on only 16 appearances in the two years since he signed for the club, and with his present contract due to end come May this is a good time to be reminding Tilly what an exciting prospect he was back then.

Damien explained: "Contracts do come into your mind and hopefully I can carry on playing well to earn myself another deal here. If that doesn't happen then another club might see me and offer me a contract, but either way I need to be playing well."
