20 year-old Lee Sawyer made a request to return to Chelsea early which has been accepted by the Shrimpers.
Sawyer has made only one start this season since joining on a six-month loan from the Premiership club and he was down to remain at Roots Hall until January.
He was not in the Southend squad for the Carlisle game Saturday after the club released a statement regarding yet another breach of club discipline.
There were rumours there had been a 'disagreement' between Sawyer and Blues boss Steve Tilson after the Walsall away back in August regarding the late penalty the midfielder gave away in that match after coming on as a late sub.
