Sawyer: 'He took a chance on me and gave me games'

Screech meet Lee Sawyer, Lee Sawyer meet Screech, you have sixty seconds to talk about your former managers.

And while Imps striker Scott Spencer will call present Blues boss Paul Sturrock an 'idiot', ex-Chelsea youth Sawyer, who was sent back to Stamford Bridge during his second loan spell at the Shrimpers in November 2009 for persistent breaches of discipline, takes a more relaxed view of his former boss.

Sawyer told www.echo-news.co.uk: "He gave me my first ever chance in the Football League during my first loan spell with Southend and I'll always be grateful for that. He took a chance on me and gave me games and although my second time there didn't go as well there's certainly no grudge against him from my point of view. I don't think I have anything to prove and although I am fired up to help us win at the weekend it's no different to how I would feel for any other game."

Lee has certainly livened up the midfield since his return to Roots Hall for a third spell with his mazy runs through opposition defences making him a dangerous opponent to try and stop.

If Kane Ferdinand is still unfit for the weekend the 21-year-old will be in the starting line-up against Tilly's Lincoln City on Saturday afternoon.

Sawyer continued: "I was pleased to start against Gillingham and the two games before Morecambe as well and hopefully we can kick on now."

Now, if only he can stop trying to pass the ball in to the net when he gets in a good position in front of goal and smah thhe ball home a more permenant contract at the end of the season should be his for the taking.
