SANCHEZ WATT

Watt: 'I chose to do this, I didn't get told to go'

He might have arrived at the last minute of the January transfer window, literally, but after only a couple of hours at Roots Hall he felt like 'I'd been here for years!'

It helped that he had already met one of his new teammates.

The young Gunner explained to www.southendunited.co.uk: "I know Scott Malone from the England under-19's and everybody here has made me feel like a family already and I have only been here for a day. The boys are all good and the standard is better than I thought. Southend have some strong players and I think I should do well."

He's used to the best at the Premiership club but now he's being thrown into a relegation struggle at the bottom of League One.

Sanchez continued: "At Arsenal, there are a lot of good facilities, but it is good to get out and see what it is really like and prove yourself in a team. I'm a confident person and will fit in anywhere. The boys here want me to do well and do well themselves. This is a big step in my career. I chose to do this, I didn't get told to go, I made my own decision and hopefully, it will make me a stronger and better player."

Certainly not the shy and retiring type then! Anyway, on to the nitty gritty, league points.

He concluded: "We have five games in February, which is a lot, so I think Southend needed to get some players in. Hopefully, I will start against Colchester United next Monday night and give a performance and help the team get the three points. I have played in the Arsenal first team and I know how it is, that it means a lot to the fans and because we aren't high in the table and it's tight, getting three points will be like getting nine points."

Like twelve points at Colchester young Sanchez, like twlve points!
