Gilbert: Likely to be booed

Gilbert: 'It did disappoint me what was said but I always give 110% when there'

Full back Peter Gilbert has returned from injury to play in all three successive wins in a Shrimpers shirt.

However, many of the Sixfields faithful may want to remind him that last May he agreed a new deal with Cobblers boss Ian Sampson but delayed signing it and eventually joined Southend when manager Paul Sturrock, who Peter had played with at Plymouth, came calling.

Gilbert told www.southendunited.co.uk: "It did disappoint me what was said but the gaffer made his comments and he can say what he wants because I'm concentrating on Southend and I'm not interested to be honest. I don't know what sort of reception I will get from the fans there but I always gave 110% whilst I was there."

He does mention there was 'a little bit of animosity over the summer', and certainly left his mark on Cobblers boss Ian Sampson who is probably not put Peter on his Christmas card list.

Sampson said: "It's history now. He's moved on, he's not a Northampton player anymore, he's a Southend player and we will look to get one over him as we would any other player. It's up to the fans what reception they give him. I'm not going to ask them not to give him a hard time. They are more than welcome."

Charming!
