We will update this photo, honest; Matty saves the Shrimpers, again

After a good second half against Derby kids on Monday there was some optimism amongst the Shrimpers faithful, and to be honest a draw on a warm Wiltshire night shouldn't dispel it all, but there's obviously still some work to do before Southend can think about being considered serious promotion contenders.

Louie Soares started the action for the away side by hitting the post allowing Scott Spencer to believe he's scored from the rebound but the linesman's flag up for offside.

In fact Soares and Spencer were proving quite a handful to the Salisbury defence but it was the Southern League club that took the lead just before the break.

Ben Adelesbury's fantastic 35-yarder screamed past Glenn Morris who had started in the Southend goal.

Blues boss Paul Sturrock decided to start the second half with Rhys Evans taking over from Morris, while Bilel Moshni took over from Anthony Grant in central midfield.

Just after the hour strikers Matt Paterson and Harry Crawford were brought on to try and get the Shrimpers back in the game, while a fourth sub with only ten minutes left was seen in trailist Lee Morris, who replaced a hard-tackling Moshini who was on the verge on seeing red in a friendly!

Then on 84 minutes a cross by Ryan Hall was headed on by Graham Coughlan and Patterson was there to head home, his and Southend's second goal in three pre-season fixtures.

And other than Matty trying his luck from a fair distance out, that was most certainly that.

Next up; Justin Edinburgh's Rushden & Diamonds in midweek, let the Sturrock revolution continue!

Southend United: Morris (Evans h-t), Clohessy, Coughlan, Phillips, Herd, Soares, Easton, Grant (Moshni h-t / Smith 80), Hall, Spencer (Crawford 62), Corr (Paterson 62).

Subs not used: Milner & Osefuwa.
