Ron Martin: 'Players were at times paid late but players should continue their desire to win'

Uncle Ron: Pay up you mugs, it gets even better next season

In the recently released set of club accounts Shrimpers supremo Ron Martin has confirmed his belief that Tilly & Brush, I'm guessing Ricky Duncan gets away with these ludicrous accusation, and the squad they put together just weren't trying towards the end of a season that ended in relegation to League Two.

Though the team won only two of their last 22 games rumours of non-payment to players and staff, which were frequently denied but turned out to be true, led to morale reaching rock bottom towards the end, and that includes the fans, particularly after the 3-0 defeat at Gillingham a year ago on April 5th.

On Planet Ron everyone should have been on play-off winning form whether their mortgage was being paid or not, shame on him.

Anyway, for what it's worth, and apologies for those who have already read this in Tuesday's Echo, the words of Chairman Ron.

'There has been much speculation regarding the lack of payment to players and the impact on their performance. Players were at certain times paid late but they were all paid and in full. With this in mind the reasonable expectation would be for the football management and professional sportsmen to continue their desire to want to win. Again, this appeared not to be the case as it became clear as the season progressed that relegation looked an increasing possibility in the closing few weeks.'

'If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?'
