Martin: 'Challenging economic times'

You've got to give it to the man, and plenty would, with Southend off to the High Court on August 2nd to prove to the judge that the club is solvent, after not paying the players for many months, and many other well documented offences against running a football club in a proper and dignified manner, the Football League still think he's good enough for them and have elected them to their board.

Chairman Ron has already had a stint on the League`s board during the Shrimpers previous seasons in League Two between 1998 and 2005.

Martin told www.southendunited.co.uk: "I have served previously on the Football League board as a representative for League Two and I was keen to stand again. I would like to continue to influence the future of the game, especially during these challenging economic times as the difference between Championship and League One and League Two continues to grow. By being involved at board level I can represent the interests of League Two clubs and Southend."

The board meets monthly to discuss and make decisions on a eide range of issues affecting football.
