Cheltenham star Hugh McAuley wants a Roots Hall chance.
Twenty-four year old Hugh McAuley, who is out of contract with Third Division rivals Cheltenham Town in the summer, will join Rob Newman's side on trial.

McAuley, formerly a striker, was a target of ex-Southend boss Alan Litle during his Conference days with Leek Town prior to Hugh signing for Cheltenham for £20,000 in the summer of 1999.
The Plymouth-born player who's previous Clubs also include Northwich Victoria and League of Wales outfit Conwy United, was a regular feature in the Robins side during their first couple of seasons in the Football League, but has been suffering from minor injuries this season and has started just three League matches.

Cheltenham boss Steve Cotteril spoke of his player, "Hugh has had a back injury recently but he is fit again and this will give him the chance to show Southend what he can do" Cotteril continued "He will train with them and possibly play in a reserve game".

McAuley, who was a trainee with Liverpool, will have to wait for his Reserve team chance however as next Wednesday Avon Insurance Combination match with Luton Town, scheduled for 2pm at Roots Hall, has been postponed.
