Rob Newman was delighted with the 0-0 draw at Home Park “ We defended like Trojan’s and I am highly delighted to come away with a point. “

The thirty-eight year old player manager was then asked about the controversial penalty incident in the second half “ It was a blatant hand-ball by their number nine, he has gone to punch it in to the net, the referee has just seen a hand, he has given the penalty, he has given it too quick and then he has gone to speak to the linesman who was supposedly closer to the action, he didn’t want to commit himself apparently, he said he didn’t see it, fair play to the referee he was prepared to talk to the other linesman who had the same clear view that we had, and it was obvious it wasn’t a penalty, you have to praise the referee that he was prepared to talk to both linesman, take his time, and then be prepared to change his mind after he had actually given the penalty to Plymouth.”

Rob then continued “ Plymouth were not happy, but they are not going to be happy with a penalty being taken away from them, I wouldn’t have been happy, but you saw the reaction of all the players, they never appealed for the penalty they only complained after the referee changed his mind.”

“ The performance today is what I want to see next season “ said Rob Newman as he continued with his post match interview “ we need to come to places lesser than this and put on performances like this, we will win games, first and foremost you don’t concede goals away from home, we will pick up points at home, we will win games at Roots Hall but we have to improve our away performances, and this was a tremendous display.”
