Blues player/manager Rob Newman who played the first sixty minutes of the Third Round FA Cup home defeat at the hands of Tranmere Rovers had this to say afterwards “ I thought we matched them first half then Tranmere’s quality came through, I thought our boys looked tired near the end while Rovers looked strong but a 3-1 score line was unfair on us”.

Thirty Eight year old Newman continued “ I thought Kevin Maher was outstanding for us tonight, but you have only to look at the Tranmere team sheet and it has quality right the way through it, it didn’t work with me playing tonight, that it why I came off after they scored the first goal, we need to get better verbally at the back then I wouldn’t need to play myself”.

Newman finished off by saying “ their first goal was a sloppy goal to concede and after that we were struggling, I then had to change it to 4-4-2 and took myself off for Scott Forbes but by then the damage had been done, we can now concentrate on the play-offs, we have a difficult game at home on Saturday against Mansfield. Good luck to Tranmere in the next round, I think they will beat Cardiff”.
