Rob Newman faced the media after the dull 0-0 Draw at Roots Hall against Rochdale, and had this to say about the Contract Rebels Leon Cort, Kevin Maher and Darryl Flahavan. “ The three of them have said no to new contracts, Flav’s has got a meeting with his agent, I think I have got to speak to the chairman as well, so we will see what’s what, but to be fair the three plus Damon Searle have all put in a decent performance today, they have not shirked responsibility, all credit to them”.

Newman was then asked why he played the three players despite stating that they would be dropped “ they are my most experienced players apart from Cort, I haven’t got enough bodies in the squad to change four or five places, they know between now and the end of the season that they wont play every game and they all appreciate that, but when I do make changes it wont be three and fours, it will be one’s and maybe two’s. The players have all said no, the contracts were on the table but they will be withdrawn now, hopefully the door is not closed for them, because they are players that I want around me for next season. Hopefully they can come back to me and say, yes I have changed my mind, I do want to sign and then we start talking again, at the moment they have all said no and want to keep their options open for whatever reasons, so its down to them”.

Rob Newman had this to say about the game “ It wasn’t a great spectacle, the

conditions made it very difficult, it was a bright sunny day then it went dark, then we had rain and a bit of snow and the wind was ferocious all the way through really, we tried to play half decent football but we didn’t have any end product, they had the better chances but I am delighted we kept a clean sheet as Rochdale are fourth in the table “.
