Player/manager - Rob Newman
“ That was a great result especially when you look at Darlington’s home record, they are a formidable side at home and to go two-nil down with just twenty minutes left makes you fear the worst” said Rob Newman after the 2-2 draw at Feethams.

Newman who played the first half continued “ The character of my boys came through, they were second to none, they were all together. Two great goals got us back into the game, Kevin Maher’s was special, we then got at them and then got a great goal from Baz, he can learn from that as that goal was all about anticipation”.

Thirty eight year old Newman went on “ we could have won it at the end as well but I am highly delighted that we have got a point. Their first goal was a scrappy affair, we kept giving silly corners away and they were delivering them in well, Flahavan’s lack of inches was a problem and he kept getting impeded, the ref didn’t blow for every foul and he should have done for the goal, the balls hit me on the chest and they have scored”.

Newman who substituted himself at half-time and brought on Mark Rawle in a 4-4-2 formation continued “I’ve changed it second half then they get a penalty, Phil has said it wasn’t a penalty but the ref’s given it, I think at home you get those sort of penalties, to go two-nil down was disappointing but we showed great character and in the end we got our reward”

Kevin Maher was delighted with his goal “ I don’t score too many goals so that

Kevin Maher
has to go down as one of my best, we are pleased to have got a draw but their first goal was a foul on Flav’s. We then give a penalty away and make it hard for ourselves, but we showed character to come back. We know we can come to places like Darlington and win but we are happy with a point today”.

Maher who will miss Tuesday nights match at Roots Hall against Hull City through a one match suspension continued “ It was a great goal by Barrington after good work by Tes and Rawley nearly scored at the end after a great ball by Tes. Tes and Baz are a threat for anyone. We are slowly putting things together, but I am to going to miss Tuesday against Hull because I’m suspended, I just hope the lads can get something out of it”.
