Rob Newman speaking to the media after the 3-2 defeat had this to say “ They were the worst goals we have given away this season, it gave us a mountain to climb, it was not a great performance first half, second half we came round and created a lot of chances, the two centre half’s scored the goals, that’s the way it’s going at the moment”.

Thirty-eight year old Newman who played the whole ninety minutes continued “I was disappointed in the goals we gave away, the first goal we were still in the bus, that’s down to the players on the pitch, me included, second goal we were asleep, Flav’s has not reacted to the second ball, it was harsh as the ball just dropped dead in the six yard box, Cort scored a good goal, Whelan has put his hand up for their third goal but then he has scored a good goal, It is the first time we have conceded three goals in the league this season, I don’t mind conceding goals if they are well worked, but those three tonight were gifts”.

Newman understandably upset had these words to say about his players “ I want the players on the long trip back, and when they get home, to think long and hard about what went wrong and also to look at their individual performances. We still have character and commitment in the side which we showed second half, but the players, me included, will know whether they have done enough in that game, I know the personnel that are slacking, I am not going to single people out, I want them to go home and think about it”.

Ian Selley
Newman asked about the performances of the two loan
Brian Barry-Murphy
players replied “ they were excellent, I thought they were excellent and I am not just saying that, Second half they were both, Brian Barry-Murphy and Ian Selley, getting the ball down and passing well and calming things down, finding Blue shirts, I thought their delivery from set pieces was the best this season, and we have got to get on the end of them, it excites me for the next seven or eight games they are here, if they can deliver that quality with our big men upfront”.

Newman finished off “ The play-off’s are still there, mathematically we can still do it so we are going to give it a go starting Tuesday at Cheltenham although that game will be harder than tonight’s, we have got to be up for it and if we win Tuesday we are right back in it, but if we don’t get in the play-off’s, I am going to make dam sure we are ready and up for it next season”
