“We deservedly took a two goal lead but to concede a goal just before half-time was a kick in the teeth “ said Blues boss Rob Newman after the 2-2 draw with Oxford United at Roots Hall.

Newman continued “we conceded a penalty when Scott Forbes got his knickers in a twist, he didn’t know what to do, he decided to chest the ball, it was a fifty-fifty and the referee decided to give the penalty, that was disappointing but the response I got from the players was again what I had asked from them on Tuesday, it was another passionate display from the lads. We should have scored five or six today, that would not have been an injustice, David Crown my assistant counted ten second half chances that we created, it was our failings to score that has cost us the chance to go on and win the game convincingly, which I thought we fully deserved”.

Newman was then asked about Oxford United’s first goal in first half-stoppage

Scott Forbes - unlucky to give away a second half penalty
time “We thought we were coasting, well we were coasting two nil up but for whatever reason we seemed to follow the ball in a small space outside the eighteen yard box and they were passing it around all too easily, our players were just switched off and then their lads shot has hit Stuart Thurgood and deflected into the top roof of the net, that was disappointing but I went in at half-time and said to them that apart from Flav’s save in the first minute and then letting in the goal in the last , it was a perfect half of football for us”.

Blues boss Rob Newman finished off “ I told them to carry on playing second half but we were hit by a sucker punch and we were unlucky. We have just got to remain positive, Tes Bramble scored again today, we have just got to take on the commitment and the desire we have shown over the last two games then we can go to Carlise on Tuesday, full of confidence, and hopefully get a win as we have not won away for a long time. I was reasonably pleased with our performance today but we are conceding too many goals of late, the players have worked their socks off and we are unlucky not to have won the game”.
