Reserves look for derby victory

Last updated : 27 January 2002 By Mark Wallis
The Shrimpers second string have won back-to-back away matches, at Peterborough United and Bristol Rovers to haul their League record onto an even keel, United have now won five, lost five and drawn three of their Combination matches so far and last Wednesday's victory down at a wet and windy Memorial Stadium lifted Southend ahead of Rovers in the table.

Goals in each half from Marek Szmid and Gareth Risbridger earned the points in that two-nil victory and Southend will be likely to field a similar starting line-up against their longstanding Essex rivals, who themselves are likely to field former United frontman Kevin Rapley along with ex-Norwich City striker Adrian Coote who was keenly sought after by David Webb last season.

Blues lost 2-1 at Layer Road in this fixture last season, but the previous campaign brought a 5-1 victory in the Combination League Cup, however United lost the League encounter 2-0, both matches were played at Roots Hall.

Following a very wet weekend, it cannot be taken for granted that the match will definately be played, so check in advance, but admission should the game be played, is as always absolutely Free!

After this match the Reserves are once again in Roots Hall action next Monday (February 4th) when Norwich City are the visitors.
