Proud Dervitte thanks team mates after French call up

Dervitte, who is with the Southend from Tottenham Hotspur until the end of the season, can't wait to be involved with his country's squad for their friendly games with Estonia this Friday and England the following Tuesday.

The centre-back has already represented his country at under 15 level through to under 19.

Speaking to Blues World he said: "I'm very proud and happy to be called up into the under 21 squad. I've been in contact with the manager who has been down to see me play a few times for Southend but the call up still came a surprise for me. I'm really pleased and I owe Southend and the players a big thank-you because it's them who have helped me achieve this."

Dervite has been in excellent form since signing for the Blues in January and has helped them win nine of his 12 games for the club. During that time, Blues have conceded just three goals from open play and the 20-year-old was pleased to secure another clean sheet in Saturday's 3-0 win over Carlisle, his sixth at the club, a 50% record!

Dorian continued: "It was a great way to bounce back from losing at Swindon. We got three goals and a clean sheet and I thought we played well. The second goal was really important because it settled us down and made it harder for Carlisle and in the end it was quite comfortable for us. We could have scored a few more towards the end but things are going very well. We will take it game by game and then see where that takes us because it is certainly still possible for us to get in the play-offs."

Due to his call up to the French under 21 squad, Dervite will miss Southend's next game at home to Hartlepool United this Friday.
