SHRIMPERS

Captain Adam Barrett will make his 250th appearance for Southend United in the second round Carling Cup tie at Hull City.

The Shrimpers loanee, left-back John White, has a with a calf problem. He did
train Monday but he might miss out.

Johnny Herd or Sunderland centre half M'Voto stand by with maybe Captain Adam playing left back.

Striker Dougie Freedman could give way to give James Walker or Alex Revell a game.

Blues boss Steve Tilson spoke to the official site: "There won't be massive changes because things have been going well and we want to keep it going but we may look at one or two different things. We are massive underdogs for this game and that means there is no pressure on us which will hopefully work in our favour. Hull are a good team and stayed up in the Premier League last season when nobody gave them a chance. They have some excellent players but over the last few years we've shown what can happen in cup competitions."

Southend United (from): Mildenhall, Francis, Heath, Barrett, White, Grant, McCormack, Christophe, Moussa, Barnard, Freedman, Revell, Walker, Betsy, Joyce, M'Voto, Sawyer, Sankofa, Herd and O'Keefe.

OPPOSITION

Dean Marney is certainly out with knee ligament damage

However, teenage striker Jozy Altidore looks set to be handed his first Tigers start after making an impressive debut at the weekend, coming on as a substitute to help his team to a 1-0 win over Bolton.

Tigers Assistant manger Brian Horton said: "Jozy has stated that he needs match practice and with all=2 0the problems he's had, he needs football now. He's got a chance of starting. He's a confident lad who will want to put his hand up and that's what we need. He's got pace, he can score goals, he's fresh and he looks like he's got the physical presence to make a mark. We're all looking forward to seeing him starting a game."

Hull boss Phil Brown could make as many as 11 changes to the side that beat Bolton with Wolves on the horizon Saturday.

Nathan Doyle, Nick Barmby, Craig Fagan, Peter Halmosi and Nicky Featherstone can all expect their first starts of the new season, while teenage midfielder Tom Cairney will also make his senior debut.

The Tigers lost away to Championship Swansea last season at the same stage.

TRANSPORT

Coach seats may still be on offer but for a late decision to drive, go here:

Includes direction to the ground which is 15 mts. from the railway station.

The stadium is fairly close to the old Boothferry Park ground, but slightly nearer to the town centre, which is 3/4's of a mile away. If you used to approach the old ground down Anlaby Road, pass the ground on your right, go under the railway bridge, and at the second set of traffic lights, turn left into Walton Street and you're there.

(For more information go to the Away Fans Guide at www.hullcity-mad.co.uk)

PUB AND PIES

The Brickmakers pub virtually opposite the stadium car park entrance is now open to a way fans. Good atmosphere, friendly Hull fans, Big screen Sky Sports and a burger van outside.

There is the nearby Walton Street Social Club that lets in away supporters. Although it costs £3 to go in, it has good cheap beer, is of a good size and offers a separate area for sale of food such as burgers and chips etc. Turn right out of the main car park entrance and it is down the road on the left hand side.

There are a number of other pubs within a few minutes walk of the stadium, but these are all designated as being for home supporters only. Most Hull fans still seem to be heading for pubs situated around Boothferry Park. These are best avoided by away fans particularly the Silver Cod pub. Otherwise you can head for the nearby City Centre, where there are plenty of pubs to be found.

The Sandringham pub, near to Hull main station, in the City Centre can be both friendly and welcoming.

The Linnet & Lark on Princes Avenue is a 15 minute walk away from the stadium, going across the pedestrian footbridge over the railway line.

Also there are a number of other bars dotted along Princes Avenue, which should be okay for away fans to drink in. These include PAVE, which has a great selection of beers from all around the world and quality food. Look out for their "matchday special" pint, pie, peas and mash for just £6.
There is ample parking in the streets off the avenue.

Closer to the stadium around a 15 minute walk up Walton Street, is the Avenues pub on Chanterlands Avenue, that welcomes both home and away supporters.

If you are walking to the stadium from the City Centre there are several pubs on Spring Bank, including the Editorial and the Tap and Spile.

The Admiral of the Humber (a Wetherspoons outlet) on Anlaby Road near Hull Paragon Railway Station. This Wetherspoons pub is listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide.

The Punch Hotel pub. It is situated in the town centre next to the Princes Quay shopping centre, so not far from the train station. It does great homemade food.

Otherwise alcohol, Carling & Tetleys are served within the stadium at £3 per pint.

HISTORY

Hull City Association Football Club was founded in June 1904.

For some years prior to this, attempts were made to found a football club, but this proved difficult in a city then dominated by respectable rugby league teams such as Hull FC and Hull KR and their dedicated fans Hull City's first season as a professional football club consisted only of friendly matches, as due to the time of founding, Hull were unable to apply for membership to The Football League for the 1904-05 season.

These early matches were played at The Boulevard, the old home of rugby league side Hull FC. On 1 September 1904, Hull's debut match took place against Notts County; with 6000 in attendance at The Boulevard, Hull notched up an impressive start, holding the more experienced County to a 2-2 draw.

The club play their home games at the KC Stadium in Hull. They previously played at Boothferry Park, but moved to their current home in 2002, with Boothferry Park set for demolition. They traditionally play in black and amber, often with a striped shirt design, hence their nickname The Tigers.

The club's mascot is Roary the Tiger.
