SHRIMPERS

Both Sunderland loanee centre-half Jean-Yves M'Voto (hip) and Damien Scannell (ankle), face fitness test where travelling Shrimpers will hope at least one will pass.

A repeat of Saturday's Oldham game would be too much to bare.

Lee Sawyer might get a chance, possibily for Christophe, which would add some attacking options.

Other than that Tilly isn't a manager for mass changes, he will know more than anybody why we couldn't create anything against the Latics and unless there's a right winger heading this way, check out Sunderland reserves, the team will have a similar look, unless those tests come up positive.

For one, Wolves loanee left back George Friend, the game couldn't come quick enough. The poor lad must have better luck this time around!

He told the official site: "It's great that we have a game so quickly after a bad result. It's a chance for us to quickly put things right again, so we want to go there and get three points to get another good run going."

And so say all of us.

Enjoy the beer before the game, and the action on the pitch when it starts. 2-1 Blues!

Possible Southend United: Mildenhall, Francis, M'Voto (or Sankofa), Barrett, Friend, Grant, Christophe (or Sawyer), McCormack, Moussa, Barnard, O'Donavan.

Subs: Joyce, Sankofa or Herd, Sawyer, Scannell (if fit), O'Keefe, Freedman, Laurent.

OPPOSITION

Brentford striker Cort is not expected to recover from the ankle injury which has made him miss the past three matches.

Midfielder Hunt missed the 2-0 defeat at Yeovil with a knock and is doubtful, so Marcus Bean should remain in the side

Both Defender Ryan Dickson (knee) and striker Ben Strevens (broken leg) remain out.

Centre-half Mark Phillips should play despite an ongoing ankle problem.

Bees boss Andy Scott dropped goalkeeper Lewis Price to the bench last weekend and played Nikki Bull, who despite letting in a couple will hope to get another chance.

Yeovil Town 2-0 Brentford

Andy Scott is refusing to press the panic button after Brentford's winless streak stretched to seven games after defeat at Yeovil.

A goal in either half consigned the Bees to their second successive defeat at Huish Park.

Scott's side haven't won since beating Norwich at Griffin Park more than a month ago, but the Brentford boss insists his troops will bounce back.

Scott told the Ealing Gazette: "This is only a blip, but it's only a blip if we come out the other side quickly. But I have complete faith in my players and won't be ringing any alarm bells yet. The players have got to take it upon themselves to think about what they are doing wrong."

The visitors put in another lacklustre first-half showing, and fell behind on 25 minutes when Craig Alcock rose highest to head home Andy Welsh's corner.

Scott hauled off Steve Kabba at the break, bringing on Myles Weston, but whatever the Bees chief to his side went out the window five minutes after the interval.

Former Bee Gavin Tomlin played in Welsh, and he slid the ball under Nikki Bull to put the Glovers two goals to the good.

Sam Wood's sizzling half-volley cannoned off the inside of the post as Brentford battled back, but they couldn't find a breakthrough.

Scott added: "They have been told in no uncertain terms that it is going to be a long hard season if we continue to approach games in that manner. We've got to do a lot better than we did today. You can talk about tactics, chances etc but we've got to work harder and press teams. That is how we got promoted. It is hard getting promoted but easy to lose games and I don't like losing games, and certainly not in that manner."

Brentford: Bull 7, Wilson 6, Bennett 5, Phillips 5, Wood 5, Saunders 5 (Foster 71 mins, 5), O'Connor 5, Bean 5, Taylor 5 (Legge 86, 5), Kabba 4 (Weston h/t, 5), MacDonald 6. Subs (not used): Price, Osborne, Ferrell, Blake.

GROUND

The ground is rather compact and certainly has an individual feel. On one side is the recently christened Bill Axbey Stand (formerly the New Road Stand), which is named after a long time supporter who watched the Bees for an incredible 89 years before passing away in 2007. This stand is a single tiered, covered all seated stand, which has a number of supporting pillars running across the front of it. The roof of the stand is painted with a large advert, designed to catch the eye of passengers flying into Heathrow Airport. Currently this is an advert for Qatar Airways, but in the past amongst others, it has been for KLM and EasyJet.

Opposite is the Braemar Road Stand. Again this stand is single tiered, all seated and has a number of supporting pillars. It has a very low roof, which makes you wonder what the view would be like from the very back row of the stand.

At one end is the Ealing Road Terrace, which up to 2007, was an open terrace that was given to away supporters. However the Club have now erected a roof on this end and decided to give it back to the home fans. This should really help boost the atmosphere within the stadium.

Opposite is the Brook Road Stand where the away fans are housed. This stand which was opened in 1986, is a strange affair; a small double decker stand that has seating on the first tier and terracing below. It is known affectionately by the Brentford fans as the 'Wendy House'.

This covered two tiered stand has 600 seats in its upper tier and room for around 1,000 fans below in the terrace. The upper tier has good unhindered views of the playing area, whilst below in the lower terraced area there are a couple of prominent supporting pillars, which may effect your view.

There is a good selection of refreshments on offer including Curry & Rice!

The ground is complete with a set of four imposing floodlights!

WEATHER

A warm evening is forecast, 21c's and sunny intervals during the day.

PUB AND PIES

The ground is unique in British football in that there is a pub in each corner of Griffin Park, one of which is owned by the club!

HISTORY

Founded in 1889 to serve as a winter pursuit for the Brentford Rowing Club, the club spent its early years in the lower divisions of the Football League and achieved little of note, save for a move to its present day home ground, Griffin Park, in 1904.

In 1921, it was a founder member of the Third Division South. During the late 1920s and 1930s, the club began to make real progress. In the 1929-30 season, the side won all 21 of its home matches in the Third Division South (a record which still stands in English football), but still missed out on promotion. After several more near-misses, promotion to the Second Division was finally achieved in 1932-33.

Two years later, Brentford reached the First Division and finished 5th in its debut season - which is still the club's highest ever league position - to complete a remarkable rise for the club. Brentford achieved more impressive placings in the league for the rest of the decade (6th in the following two seasons) before the Second World War interrupted.

Since the War, they have spent most of their time in the third and fourth tiers of English football. Brentford have been FA Cup quarter-finalists on four occasions, and have twice been Football League Trophy runners-up.

Former BBC Director-General and Bees fan Greg Dyke was announced as chairman of Brentford on 20 January 2006 as part of the takeover by Bees United, the Brentford Supporters Trust.

On 25 April 2009 Brentford sealed the Coca-Cola League Two Championship (English Football's 4th tier) with a 3-1 win at Darlington. The Bees were awarded the Trophy in front of 10,223 fans at Griffin Park on May 2nd. They are the second team (after Doncaster Rovers) to win the fourth tier three times, and the only one so far to win the tier under its three names (Fourth Division, Division Three and League Two).

Scott's excellent first calendar year in charge was recognised with an award, the BBC London 'Manager of the Year 2008'. Scott was also awarded the 'Coca Cola League Two Manager of the Month' award for April/May 2009, which recognised the above title was won in difficult circumstances; with 4 strikers hospitalised in 8 games. During the 2008-09 campaign, three players also picked up awards:

  • Marcus Bean — 'Powerade Player of the Month' for League Two December 2008
  • Charlie MacDonald — 'Powerade Player of the Month' for League Two February 2009
  • Jordan Rhodes — League Two 'PFA Fans' Player of the Season 2009' and League Two 'PFA Fans' Player of the Month' March 2009.

2009/10: A total of 13 new players have been bought in, mostly on free transfers.

Benham Partnership: On 5th August 2009 the amalgamation of fans' groups which help run the club - Bees United - announced they had ".. negotiated terms with Matthew Benham that will enable BU to continue in its role of ensuring the club is governed well, of protecting the long term interests of Brentford Football Club, and of giving you, our members, the right of veto over any unreasonable sale of the ground in which Brentford plays, so long as Brentford FC remains solvent".

The full details are here: http://www.beesunited.org.uk/content/view/418/.

The 'Benham Partnership' will hopefully see monies to keep the club afloat and improve the facilties at the ground, as well as helping the Management imropove the squad. Benham is a bookmaker: the CEO of Smartodds.
