Poor Peter Gilbert sits out more time for Southend United

Peter Gilbert trains with himself, something he must be getting used to!

I don't believe left-back Peter Gilbert was wishing for such a white Christmas.

His red card against Stevenage and subsequent three-match ban must seem a long, long time ago as the various call-offs will now mean he misses Barnet at Roots Hall on the Boxing Day afternoon as the final game of his suspension.

The game at the delightfully named Lamex Stadium took place on Tuesday, November 23rd, so if he's able to take his place in the side at Crewe on December 28th it will be well over a month since he saw some match action.

Let's hope the weather relents.

The positive spin is it does gives the injured players more time to get fit, and further rest on those knocks for players such as Bilel Moshni and Josh Simpson.

And the snow falls down; how many games will survive this weekend and beyond?

However, there's no guarantee we'll play the two fixtures over the Christmas holiday, Barnet at home next Saturday and Crewe away on the following Bank Holiday Tuesday, as the big chill is expected to just keep on coming, possibily into the early new year as well!

Anybody booked advance rail fares or a nice b&b, start getting nervous.
