Phillips: Ready for comeback

Phillips: 'I think there was a great work ethic throughout the whole side'

Shrimpers defender Mark Phillips grabbed his fourth goal of a relatively injury free season against Shrewsbury Town Friday evening, after only scoring half that amount over his whole career!

However, as he turned away to face the cheers of the Roots Hall crowd, Swindon loanee midfielder Michael Timlin decided to take celebrating that the points were sealed maybe a touch too far for the former Brentford skipper!

Phillips told www.echo-news.co.uk: “Michael Timlin jumped on me and then so did Anthony Grant which forced my knee to buckle. It really did hurt and I feared the worst to be honest but thankfully everything is feeling OK now and there’s no damage. It was great to score again and hopefully I can chip in with a few more. Although if I do I’m going to have to make sure I run away from everyone else in the celebrations!”

It ended up 3-0, a fourth successive win all without conceding since losing 2-0 at Swindon, and took the club to the top of League Two where they remained past Saturday's results with a three-goal advantage over second placed Crawley Town, and Mark believes he knows the reason why.

Phillips said: “I think there was a great work ethic throughout the whole side and we got the rewards for that. Shrewsbury are a good side, they weren’t second in the table for no reason and they put us under some pressure in the second half. But we stuck together to get another three points and another clean sheet too which we’re all really pleased about.”

COME ON YOU BLUES!!!!!!!
